Obituary

Harry Jefferies "Jeff" Thorpe, 90, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2010, in Cox Walnut Lawn. He was born on December 12, 1919, in Independence, Mo. Jeff was a veteran of the Army Air Force and served in World War II, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service. After his time in the service, Jeff owned several businesses in Columbus, Nebraska including Thorco and Thorpe Chemical Company. In 1973 he sold his businesses and moved to Springfield, Mo. He went to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier until retiring for the second time. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Sue Thorpe; and his youngest daughter, Betty Margaret Thorpe. Jeff is survived by three daughters, Christie Kim Thorpe, Darly Kit Doyle and husband Dennis, Ann Elizabeth Morris and husband Christopher; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Private burial will follow in White Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Ozarks Honor Flight, KY3, PO Box 3500, Springfield, MO 65808.
