Obituary

Harry Elbert Miller passed into Jesus' waiting arms on December 17, 2011 after a very short battle with cancer. He was born in Springfield, MO at his parent's house on Taylor Street on October 13, 1935 to Norville Iren and Viessa Alberta Miller and was the eldest of 6 children. Harry worked at Dayco for 25 years, and as a United States Army Veteran, he was a member of the American Legion and was very proud of a recent ceremony in which he was presented the medals earned from his service in the Korean War. The pride Harry had in his service to his country was only eclipsed by his pride in his family of veterans, who include his brothers, Joe and John; his son, Steve; daughter, Carol; and grandchildren, Christopher, Melody and Jake. His heart was especially close to Jake, as he is currently serving in the USAF and is stationed in Korea, giving him a special bond with his Grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Joe and John. Survivors include his son, Steven Eugene Miller of Springfield, MO; daughters, Jane Ellen Harris (James Sr.) of Pensacola, FL; Carol Lynn Miller of Springfield, MO and Karen Alice Odum-Miller of Carthage; three sisters, Barbara Walters, Tucson, AZ, Donna Douglas, Columbia, MO and Norvella Mandese, Brandon, FL; grandchildren, Rick Temple, Christopher Miller, Melody Miller, Michael Gisi, James Harris Jr., Joshua Harris, Jake Harris, Judith Harris, Jessica Harris, Jocqueline Harris, Marla Garza, Michael Miller, Gary Jamison and Karmen Odum; ten great-grandchildren, and another two "on the way." He is also survived by his sweetheart, Cynthia Magruder, who tended to him lovingly in the last months of his life and his newest "best friend", Pookie. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 2 p.m.
