Obituary

Harry Eugene (Gene) Pittman was born October 30, 1929 in Independence, Kansas and died February 26, 2026 at 96 years of age. He moved to Springfield as a child and graduated from Springfield (Central) High School in 1947. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and served both in the States and Europe until his honorable discharge in 1953. He attended MSU, Burge (Cox College) schools of Radiology and Medical Technology. Following completion of his schooling he worked in the pharmaceutical industry for thirty-four years.

In 1955 he married Barbara Jean (Smith) Pittman, and they were married for 67 years. Gene and Barbara had two children Lisa Jean Mynatt and Lawrence (Larry) E. Pittman.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara in 2022, parents Harry and Marion Pittman, brothers Robert Pittman and Richard Pittman, sisters Patricia Wellman and Janice Van Deusen. He is survived by his children Lisa (Mike) Mynatt and son Larry (Kathy) Pittman, his sister Pamela (Michael) Hannah, brother-in-law Ralph Van Deusen, sisters-in-law Marilyn Smith and Ruby Smith, five grandchildren Ryan (Dina) Mynatt, Abby (Jeremy) Bailey, Mallory (Derick) Cotner, Zachary Pittman (Aikta Kumari), Zachary (Allison) Getty, five great-grandchildren Layla Cotner, Aiden Bailey, Rose Getty, Miriam Mynatt, and Nadia Mynatt, and also many nieces and nephews.

Gene will be missed by a great many long-time friends who made sure he was always included and he especially enjoyed the Friday coffee group and the Saturday Braum's ham radio coffee crew. He was a member of Solomon Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Abou Ben Adhem Temple.

Services for Gene will be held on Friday March 6, 2026, at Gorman- Scharpf Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM, Funeral Service at 2:00 PM, followed by private graveside service at Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
