Harriett A. Rhodes Bauer, 72 of Springfield passed away peacefully on Friday, October 19, 2012 in her home. She was born on February 21, 1940 in Springfield, Missouri to Ruth and Max Rhodes. She is survived by her husband, Jack Bauer of the home; her daughter, Beth Bauer and grandson, Drew Hocker of Kansas City, MO; her son, Tim Bauer and his wife, Michalene and their children, Rease and Gage of Wilmington, NC; her sister, Jane Perryman and husband, Max of Springfield, MO. Although paralyzed at the age of 16, Harriett led a life that was full of wonderful activities. She enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, traveling and anything else that she was ever told not to do. She was a woman of determination and got great joy out of proving to herself and others what she was capable of doing. Due to military requirements her husband was deployed on many occasions over the years. Harriett carried on, on her own, raising their children and even packing and moving them across country. A special thanks to all at Hospice and Palliative Care of Springfield who helped throughout the last few months and final days. Visitation will be Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 10:00 to 11:30 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 am at the church. A private family burial will conclude. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri,601 S.
