Harriet C. Spencer, 86, of Smith River, Ca. and Springfield, Mo. passed away at 9:01 am October 18, 2013 in her home at Christian Health Care. She was born on January 31, 1927 to Lilburn and Hazel Gregory in Grand Rapids, MI. Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James C. Spencer; her sister, Eloise Spencer; brother, Maxwell; daughter, Diane Mead; stepson, James Spencer; and nephew, Greg Spencer. She is survived by sons, Travis Balmain and Michael McMahan; daughter, Leslie Balmain; stepdaughters, Carolyn Westbrook and Marilyn Heyer; as well as grandchildren, Brian, Raychele, Jenifer, Matt, Brandon, Will Nicole, Leorah; 7 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Burmis Spencer and Gail Meyers. She belonged to Calvary Christian Church of the Redwoods Crescent City, California. Her joys in life were morning walks with her beloved husband by the Pacific Ocean, reading, especially mystery novels, cooking, working in her multiple vegetable and flower gardens and spending time with her family and friends. Visitation will be held Thursday 6 pm-7pm October 24, 2013 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, The celebration of life will be held November 30, 2013 in Smith River, California.
