Obituary

Harriet Lee Hedges Smith, age 73, of Springfield, Missouri passed away Friday, February 5, 2016. She was born June 7, 1942 in Springfield, Missouri to William and Georgia (Lockwood) Hedges. Harriet graduated from Parkview High School and attended Southwest Missouri State University for two years. She married Thomas M. Smith on March 21, 1963. They lived in St. Louis, Missouri, Lilburn, Georgia, Edmond, Oklahoma, and Colorado Springs, Colorado before retiring to Springfield in 2007. She is preceded in death by both of her parents. She is survived by her husband of almost 53 years, her daughter Kathleen Hill, son-in-law Ronny Hill, and grandson Chase Hill (all of Edmond, Oklahoma) and her daughter Heather Kem, son-in-law Sam Kem, grandson Zach Kem, granddaughter Anne Marie Kem, and grandson Justin Kem (all of Bella Vista, Arkansas). Harriet was a skilled seamstress who had a passion for quilting. She was active in various quilting groups and classes and took delight in making quilts for her home and family. She also enjoyed reading, trying new recipes, playing bridge, and spending time with family. Harriet was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, February 12, 2016, at Messiah Lutheran Church, and burial will follow at Hazelwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 6:30-8:00 PM. Memorial gifts in honor of Harriet may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church.
