Obituary

Harold Lokensgard, 96, of Springfield died at Glendale Gardens. He was born in New Ulm, Minnesota to the late Lorence and Helen (Johnson) Lokensgard. 

He graduated from New Ulm High School and Gustavus Adolphus College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business management. He worked for the S.S. Kresge Co., which later became Kmart, for 35 years before retiring in 1988. Harold served with the 3rd Armored Division in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Austria. He attained the rank of corporal while he served from 1951-1953 (Reserves 1953-1959). 

He married Dorothy Ahlefeld (deceased 2015) May 27, 1956. The church and their mini farm were both very important parts of his life. Harold is survived by two children David and Diane; four grandchildren Sheena, Sonja, Royce, and Deering; four great-grandchildren Donovan, Dimitri, Trey, and Oakley; one brother Howard and sister-in-law Darlene, many nieces, nephews, and cousins including cousin and caregiver Dawn and her husband Lee. The family would like to thank Glendale Gardens and Seasons Hospice for the care and compassion they provided to Harold throughout this time. Memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Endowment Fund.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 10, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Messiah Lutheran Church. Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:00 AM in the church and officiated by Pastor Orin Cummings. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.
