Harold Wayne Edwards, 80, of Springfield, Mo passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010. He was born November 12, 1929 in Hornersville, Mo to Joe and Katy Edwards. Wayne attended school and graduated from high school in Hornesville, Mo. On April 3, 1953 he married Margaret Iantha Branum. He attended several colleges and obtained a B.S. degree from the University of Nebraska in Omaha and later earned a Masters degree from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark. He entered the U.S. Army in 1948 and served his country for twenty-four years including tours in Korea and later Vietnam. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Following his retirement from the military he lived in Kennett, Missouri from 1972-1988. There he worked as a school teacher and later as a hospital administrator. In 1988 he and his wife moved to Springfield, Missouri and he served for a number of years as Elementary Principal in Hurley, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. He is survived by his wife, Iantha; two sons, Col. Patrick Edwards and wife Larissa of Atlanta, GA and John Edwards and wife Lori of Springfield, Mo; one daughter, Beth Sparks and husband Ray of Springfield Mo; one sister, Rosalie Marler and husband Grady of Granite City, IL; nine grandchildren, Erin, Amy, Ryan, Kyle, Brett, Joseph, Sara, Drew and Carrie; and three great grandchildren, Makenzie, Cotton and Montana. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in Campbell United Methodist Church under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery near Lake Springfield. Visitation will be Monday, June 7, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
