Harlan Diehl, age 85, son of Neil and Hulda (Anderson) Diehl was born November 4, 1930 in Douglas, Wyoming. He passed away February 7, 2016 quietly in his home.
Harlan is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters Dorothy Cooper, Irene Haskins, Cleda Simmons and Virginia Tunney; one brother Stanley; two daughters Shawna Lee and Kendall Joy and one son-in-law Mark Doty.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Delores (Dee); two daughters Jilayne (Wayne) Bostron of Springfield, Callae (Mark) Doty of Republic; one brother Ronald Diehl (Joannie) of Las Vegas, N.M.; three grandsons, one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters.
Harlan and Delores lived in Nebraska and Colorado before moving to Missouri. Harlan worked for Springfield Housing Authority before his retirement in 2000.
He was a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church and Springfield Evening Lions Club.
Harlan was an avid woodworker in his lifetime, having built two houses in Colorado. He provided a number of craft projects for his Lions Club but his favorite project was a replica of a Wells Fargo stagecoach built according to scale. His stagecoach is currently on display at the State Park in Fort Robinson, Nebraska.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Southminster Presbyterian Church (2245 S. Holland Ave.) from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., with a memorial service beginning at 11:30 a.m., with Pastor Charley Shurtz officiating. Lunch will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the church. Graveside service with full military honors under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel will be at 2:00 p.m. at Rivermonte Memorial Gardens, 4500 S. Lone Pine Ave.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Honor Flight of the Ozarks, P.O. box 3964, Springfield, MO 65808-3964.
