Taylor, Sr.
March 13, 1932 – April 23, 2024
Hanson B. Taylor, Sr., 92, Rogersville, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024, in his home, peacefully, with family. He was born March 13, 1932, the son of Leo Hansom Taylor and Jessie (Ellis)Taylor. Hanson developed his strong sense of responsibility and sacrifice as a young boy, as he helped care for a cherished invalid sister Kathryn Ann. He was known to be a great multi sport athlete, and was Springfield Athlete of the Year, 1950. He attended Wesleyan University in Nebraska and Missouri State University where he played football as quarterback. In 1952 he was appointed to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He resigned his appointment there because of family obligations. After returning home he played on a semi-pro baseball team, the Springfield Generals as catcher, and in 1954 his team took National Runners Up in the Semi Pro World Series Tournament. Hanson worked for Henningson Foods and had opportunity to travel the world supervising installation of factories for the dehydrated food industry, where he made lifelong friendships. He was a business owner, The Egg Company, and a cattlemen on the family farm in Rogersville, MO. Hanson was a member of the downtown YMCA for 70 years and developed many long time friendships on the handball court. Hanson was a Christian man, and he and wife Margaret enjoyed singing in a quartet with friends from the Plainview Church of Christ. Hanson was a mentor throughout his life, always wanting to help people. He helped establish the Logan Rogersville Booster Club and served as president. Hanson was an outdoorsman. He spent many hours in a tree stand in the deer woods, and loved quail and pheasant hunting and fishing. He was an accomplished pianist, a true Renaissance man. Hanson's number one priority was always his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Lollar) Taylor on May 29, 2019, a sister, Kathryn Ann, and an infant brother, Michael Eugene.
Hanson is survived by a daughter, Pamela Taylor Collins and her husband David, two sons, Hanson, Jr. and his wife Cherie, Michael Taylor and his wife Mary, five grandchildren; Jhett and his wife, Ashley, Luke, Chandler, Jackson and Claire, 2 great-grandchildren Brooklyn, and Jade who loved their Papa dearly and brought him great joy, also several dear nieces and nephews and family friends who enriched his life with love.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2024 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with a service beginning at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a scholarship fund at the Logan- Rogersville Schools.
