IN LOVING MEMORY OF
H. Gudrun
Mead
February 17, 1929 – December 16, 2022
Gudrun Mead (nee Roith) was born February 17, 1929 and passed away Friday, December 16, 2022 in Castlewood Assisted Living.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andreas and Josefa Roith, and her beloved husband, John A. Mead, Jr.
She was born in Munich, Germany; and met her future husband to be who was stationed with the Army after WWII in Munich. His way of getting to know her was by asking if she knew of any good fishing spots? They were married April 22, 1951, in a cathedral in Kloster Schaeftlarn, Germany. Gudrun came to the U.S. September 5, 1952, with their daughter, Josette. John, her husband, was waiting for them at Logan Airport, Boston, MA since he received orders to report to Ft. Devens, MA. They spent a life together; moving from Army base to Army base, but John received orders twice to Germany which allowed Gudrun to see her mother, brother and other family members.
Gudrun is survived by her three children, Josette (Mike) Tilley, John (Inge) Mead and Mark (Claire) Mead; granddaughter, Erika (Jake) Miller; grandson, Grayson Mead; and great-grandson, Myles Miller. She also leaves behind her only sibling, Dieter Roith (Marianna), who lives in Munich. She has surviving German cousins and a goddaughter, Ulrika. She was raised with a second cousin, AnneMarie Block, who was more of an older sister to her, Gudrun kept in touch with AnneMarie's sons' Stephen, and twins, Gerard and Florian Block.
She was a wonderful cook and an excellent seamstress; for many years she made all of her clothes as well as Josette's. Her family was very important to her, but her love for John was unparalleled. He was her one and only true love.
She will be buried with her husband, John, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Please send no flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
