Guy Eugene Farrar, 88, of Springfield passed away at 9:15am on Saturday, November 26, 2011 in the Manor at Elfindale. A lifelong Springfield resident, Gene was born May 7, 1923 to Lloyd and Flossie Majers Farrar. He was a 1941 Graduate of Springfield Senior High and attended SMS. He entered the US Marine Corps in 1943 serving in Okinawa and the Pacific Theatre during WWII and also served during the Korean conflict. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserves in 1966. Gene took early retirement from the Frisco Railroad to become an Independent insurance agent and had his own agency for over 30 years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Wanda (Wampler) Farrar who died June 21, 2000. They were married April 29, 1946. He is survived by his daughters Becky Peck and husband Greg of Carmel, IN; Jane Denney and husband Shayne of Merriam Woods, MO; a son Richard Farrar of Springfield, MO; three grandchildren Adam Peck and wife Angie, Drew Basten and Blake Basten and two great grandchildren Anna and Hunter Peck. Graveside services and burial will be held at 11am on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery with the Reverend Mary Ann Morris officiating, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.
