Gregory Allen Swanson, 62, of Springfield passed away on Monday, November 2 in Cox Medical Center South. He was born April 8, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Gerald B. and Janette I. Swanson. Greg, formerly of Festus, Missouri, retired to the Springfield area in 2002, after a 36 year career with the Department of Defense in their Mapping and Imagery Agency as a senior cartographer. He will be missed by many of his old Kansas City and St. Louis mapping buddies. Greg enjoyed his years in the area as a member of Webster Park Baptist Church and the local Elks Lodge #409. He held a special spot on his calendar for the "Thursday Cardiac Rehab Lunch Buddies" and the Saturday morning fellowship with the old "$10 or more" attendees. Preceded in death by his parents, mother Melanae Swanson and brother Bob. Greg is survived by his sisters, Leah Whiteaker, of Springfield and her husband, Ray and Carol Blankenship, of Richmond and her husband Danny; his MFSIL, Sharon Klein, of Branson and nieces and great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews whom he loved dearly, as well as many other family members and special friends. Greg will be greatly missed by all who knew him and were touched by his gentle spirit, his generous heart and his listening ear. Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with Rev. J.R. Gann officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. before service. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 7, 2009 in Sunny Slope Cemetery in Richmond, Mo. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Greg's memory to Webster Park Baptist Church, 1513 N.
