Obituary

Grace Adele Johnson, 92, passed away on February 7, 2016, at her home in Springfield, Missouri. Grace was born on March 9, 1923, in Marshall, Missouri, to Dr. George and Minnie Emmerson. She was the youngest of seven children.

She was a graduate of both Marshall High School and Missouri Valley College. It was at college where she met and married William (Bill) Alexander Johnson on October 30, 1944. Together they had two children and were blessed to have 68 years together.

During her lifetime, Grace greatly enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed animals (there was always a pet in the house until the last few years), spending as much time as she could outside, and doing yardwork. She was also heavily involved in various bridge clubs.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her six siblings, and her husband. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Hank (Sally) Johnson, Neosho, Missouri, and Karen (Gary) Whorton, Springfield, Missouri; Bill's brother and his wife, Robert and Jean Johnson, Independence, Missouri; her grandchildren, Britt (Ryan) Hamilton, Lindsay Weiss, Ali (Mat) Morlen, Brad (Tabitha) Johnson, and Lisa Johnson; five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at Missouri Veteran's Cemetery under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
