Memorial services for Gloria Leigh (Britton) Dixon Pierson, 89, of Springfield, Missouri, will be held at 2pm, Saturday, March 7, at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, Missouri, with Rev. Gerry Comstock officiating. The body has been donated to Washington University, Saint Louis, MO. She died February 18, 2015, at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO. Mrs. Pierson was born in Saint Louis, MO, the daughter of Arthur Britton and Anna (Stallings) Britton. She graduated Kirkwood High School and was an alumnae of Miss Hickey's Secretarial School. On July 15, 1944 she married Richard H. Dixon. She was a school secretary for many years before she and Richard moved to Table Rock Lake in 1972, owning and operating a small resort for a number of years before retiring. Richard died in April of 2000. She married Stuart L. Pierson September 10, 2002 and together they enjoyed their shared interests in art museums, art classes, travelling to foreign countries and ballroom dancing. Mrs. Pierson was an artist, a member of the Table Rock Art Guild, a loyal supporter of Boy Scouts of America and she was a member of Unity Spiritual Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Anna Britton, sisters Dororthy Scognamiglio, Darlane Salomon, and brother Samuel Britton. Survivors include her husband, Stuart Pierson of the home and brother, William Britton, Dittmer, MO. The family would like to thank the staff at The Waterford at Ironbridge, the Phoenix Home Care caregivers and the caregivers of The Maples Health and Rehabilitation Center.
