Obituary

Gloria J. Leitterman Eskew
May 9, 1941  -  November 16, 2020

Gloria J. Leitterman Eskew was born on 9 May, 1941, the eldest of four children to Dennis "Shorty" and Glenda Leitterman in St. Louis, MO. She grew up in Crystal City, MO departing after high school to Tempe, AZ where she earned her degree in nursing.

Gloria moved to Fairbanks, AK where she worked in several nursing disciplines to include Director of Nursing at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. In 1976 she met Richard Eskew. Upon marriage the newly formed family of four, Rich, Gloria, Chuck and Lori departed for Saudi Arabia for the next fifteen years.

During her time in Saudi Arabia, Gloria excelled at every endeavor she undertook to include: President of the International women's Group (2,300 members,) implementation of nursing requirements for new hospitals in AlBaha, Taif and the King Khalid Eye Specialist Hospital in Riyadh where she also held the position of Administrative Assistant to the Medical Director.

Returning to the States in 1991, they took residence in Springfield, MO where Gloria was Director of Nursing at Republic Park Care Center. Upon retiring from this position, Gloria devoted all her efforts to support her husband's work and devotion to her new family at Covenant Presbyterian church. Of course, spoiling grandchildren whenever possible was another priority.

Gloria loved to cook and entertain; those fortunate to partake of her many culinary achievements will remember such with delight. Beginning in the early 60s, Gloria began a lifelong tradition of baking Christmas cookies. In later years she brought from the oven a minimum of 50 dozen of fabulous treats.

Gloria is survived by her husband of 44 years, Richard; a son, Chuck (Julia), in Fairbanks, AK; and a daughter, Lori, (Mark), in Stephens City, VA; her sister, Kay and her brother Dennis (Pam); and her sister (deceased) Deanna (David); five grandchildren: Jessica, Olivia, Emily, William and Arctic: and two great-grandchildren ; Remi Jo and Sawyer; a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews and dear friends from around the world to include, but not to be forgotten, Gloria's wonderful, caring and loving family at Covenant Presbyterian Church.

This morning Gloria has taken her last step on the path of goodness and is now in the glory of her Savior.

With peace of mind and body, with family at her side, we said our goodbyes with unbearable sorrow for our loss. However, we rejoice in the knowledge Gloria has joined her new family.

We extend deep gratitude to all who have helped us in this time. Prayers allow the heart to sooth the hurt.  Now she rests in peace.

The family of Gloria Eskew request your prayers for Gloria to make a peaceful transition as she travels on her last journey to join all her loved ones who are anxiously awaiting her arrival in heaven.

Only God knows how long she will be with us who so dearly love her. We believe in the power of prayer and ask each and every one of you to please pray for her transition to be one of minimal distress.

Family and faith in her Savior are most important to Gloria and she will be pleased to know so many have said prayers in her name.

From our hearts, thank you from all of us. At this time, we request no phone calls or visits.

A funeral service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 21, 2020.
