Obituary

Ginger Rainelle Young was born June 14, 1949 in West Plains, MO, to Glen and Sue Shaw. She passed away at her home in Springfield, MO, June 14, 2015, after a nine- month battle with cancer. Her family was by her side. After graduating from Parkview High School in 1967, she went on to cosmetology school, and pursued a career as a beautician. It's no coincidence that in a salon called Mr. Lucky's, fate would have her catch the eye of a salesman, who would turn out to be the love of her life. She united in marriage with Max Young on July 9, 1977, in Springfield, MO. For 41 years she lived a life with him filled of love, laughter, family, and road trips to casinos; all alongside her best friend. Out of this union came two boys and so began her second career as a stay-at-home Mom. She spent countless hours at ball games, bowling alleys, band competitions, and school functions, often volunteering to help along the way, and always with a smile. She taught her boys how to cherish family, always work hard, follow your dreams, and persevere no matter what. It was her dedication, support, and unconditional love for them, that helped grow them into men. Upon re-entering the workforce in 1993 she went to work for American National Insurance (ANPAC) in Springfield, MO, and over 22 years received numerous awards, achievements and designations. During that time she had the opportunity to work with both of her sons, her sister Joni, and a niece, Bridgett Pilkington. While there she touched many lives, made many friends, and created a lot of memories along the way. Later in life she enjoyed being Grandma "Baboo" to her granddaughter, Allyson. Whether it was shopping, sewing, playing games on the IPAD, or just dancing to the jukebox, their time together was always fun, and always special. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by husband Max; two children, Samuel Young and Taylor Young, of Springfield, MO; step-daughter, Kristy Young, Bozeman, MT; granddaughter, Allyson Young; four aunts, Janice Sellak, Letty Moss, Maxine Shanerman and Barbara Shaw; five siblings, Karen and Tom Van Hooser, Bryan and Donna Shaw, Ed and Judy Shaw, Joni and Larry Fulks, and Cindy and Paul Tilley; sister-in-law, Betty Clover. She also leaves behind a number of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and countless friends who were all special to her in some way. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held in her honor Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 5-8pm in the Brentwood Chapel at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole St., Springfield, MO. This will be a casual, visitation-like atmosphere, and an opportunity to share stories and memories of this amazing woman. The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Hospital, Chub O'Reilly Cancer Center, and Mercy Hospice for providing her and us with great care and compassion. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3322 S. Campbell, Ste G, Springfield, MO 65807, or Mercy Hospice Care, 1570 W. Battlefield, #110, Springfield, MO 65807.
