Obituary

Gertrude "Trudie" L. Pummill, 91, of Springfield, passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2010, in Springfield. Trudie was born on Dec. 19, 1918, in Seymour, Mo., to Joseph and Gertrude Schweikert Liebich. When she was six years old, the family moved to Springfield, where she spent most of her life. She attended Springfield Public Schools and State Teachers College, where she met her future husband, Arch Pummill, and graduated with her teaching degree. She taught school before and after her marriage, which took place in Red Bank, N.J., on May 30, 1942. Trudie was active in Camp Fire Girls, PTA, taught Sunday school at First & Calvary Presbyterian Church for many years, and was a founding member of a Southwest Missouri Museum Association Art Group. She was a long-time Associate Member of Telephone Pioneers of America. She was proficient at sewing, had a keen interest in nature, and loved exploring the American West by car. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and two sisters. She is survived by her loving husband, Arch E. Pummill; two daughters, Elizabeth "Liz" Thomas of Salida, Colo., and Mary Sue Pummill of St. Paul, Minn.; one granddaughter, Rosemary Sue Thomas, and one great grandson, Evan Andrew Pringle, both of Glenn Carbon, Il. At Trudie's request, there will be no services. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
