Obituary

Gertrude ("Trudy") Kreps passed away peacefully at Mercy Villa in Springfield on January 17. She was born in November 13, 1921 to Swiss immigrant parents. Emma and Jack Urben, who helped found the town of New Glarus, Wisconsin, where Trudy grew up on the family dairy farm. As a young woman working in Chicago, Trudy met William Coyle Kreps. They were married November 30, 1957 and lived where his career in the U. S. Air Force took them, including Spain, where their son was born, and Germany. When he retired after 30 years' service that included three tours of duty in Vietnam, Lt. Col. and Mrs. Kreps moved to an acreage on Lake Taneycomo near Branson with fruit trees and a large garden. In Branson they were active members of the Episcopal Church of the Shepherd of the Hills, where Trudy belonged to the Women's Guild and Quilt Guild. There and at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension after their move to Springfield, she was known for her bakingchallah bread, cookies and pies including apple, peach, gooseberry and rhubarb-raisin. Trudy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jake and sisters Sylvia and Rosie. She is survived son Brian and wife Adrian of Houston, Texas, sisters Alice and Margret and many nieces and nephews. A memorial Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at the Church of the Ascension, 903 West Katella St., on Wednesday, February 9 at 10:00 a.m., Father Lawrence Lewis officiant, preceded by a visitation from 9:00 to 10:00. Arrangements are under the direction of Gorman-Sharpf Funeral Home, with interment of ashes in Springfield National Cemetery following the service.
