Gertrude "Trudy" V. Hoback, formerly of Bolivar, Mo., passed away Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Culpepper Place of Chesterfield Village in Springfield. Born April 21, 1928 in East St. Louis, Ill. the Lord blessed her with 82 years. Having lived in many different states, Trudy settled in Bolivar with her husband and two daughters. While there she was known as a friendly face behind the Walmart checkout counter, a regular on the golf course, where husband Harvey was golf pro, and a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church. Though her greatest loves were her family, her Bible and the Lord; she also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, poodles and Wheel of Fortune. Trudy is preceded in death by her husband Harvey Hoback (1988), three sisters and one brother. She is survived by Don and Marie (Newborn) Cox of Springfield, Terry (Newborn) Palmer of Latrobe, Pa., five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with visitation on Tuesday, January 18 from 7 to 8 pm and the funeral on Wednesday, January 19 at 1 pm with the burial service to follow at Springfield National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to the mission work of her grandson (Jeremy Newborn) and his family in West Africa.
