Obituary

Gerald E. Patrick, 89, of Springfield, MO passed away Monday, February 15, 2016. He was born in Monett, MO to William and Wilma (Eubanks) Patrick. He was united in marriage to Erma Hill on May 9, 1948.

Gerald graduated from Hurley, MO High School in 1943. He joined the Army Air Corps and served in the Pacific Rim. After his military service, Gerald attended Draughons Business College. He was employed in Springfield for 32 years with the Frisco/BNSF Railway as a Claims Agent.

Gerald enjoyed traveling, particularly in the Southwestern part of the United States. His favorite states were Colorado and New Mexico, where he enjoyed camping and sightseeing. He planted a vegetable garden in his backyard every summer, and was also dedicated to keeping his yard and home in prime condition. Gerald, also known as "Boompa" to his spoiled grandchildren and great grandchildren, was a beloved and devoted grandfather. He will always be remembered by his family and friends for his sense of humor and his fondness for practical jokes.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 67 years; his daughter Sherri Mertens of Springfield; his son David Patrick of Springfield; his sister Helen Gilbert of Springfield; two granddaughters: Michelle Ferri of Boston, MA and Kristin Henley of Branson, MO; five grandsons: Michael Spillers of the Los Angeles, CA area, Scott Spillers of the Los Angeles, CA area, Ryan Spillers of Northwest AR, Evan Mertens of Springfield, and Eric Mertens of Springfield; 9 great grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.

Gerald requested that no funeral services be held for him. Arrangements are under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield. Donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.
