Son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, airman, accountant, pinochle player, amateur golfer (very amateur!), hiker, occasional emcee, faithful Christian, lover of music, committed friend, and sweet, sweet manGerald A. Getty, 92, passed on to eternal life on September 21, 2014, in Springfield, MO. Born in Butler, New Jersey, Gerry was the loving father of Charlie and Vicky, father-in-law of Carol, and granddad of Samantha Wheaton. An accountant by occupation, Gerry was a member of the Chrysler company Honor Society of Accountants, a life member of the American Legion of Butler, NJ, and a faithful attendee of the Immaculate Conception Church of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Sally, and his three older siblings Pearl Gough, Frances Sloan, and Charles R. Getty. A quiet man by nature, Gerry loved a good laugh, good company, and a good game of pinochle. His legacy to his family includes his sweet spirit and his caring attitude toward those in need. To honor Gerry's tender heart, the family suggests that anyone so inclined make a donation to the Convoy of Hope [convoyofhope.org] or other charity of their choice. Funeral services will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 East Seminole, Springfield, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27 (viewing starts at noon).
