Georgie Meadows Mathias, age 87, of Springfield, woke up in the arms of Jesus on April 11, 2024. Born August 12, 1936, to William Alpha Meadows and Kathleen Fancher Meadows, she graduated from Blue Eye HS, Draughons Business College, and received her Associates Degree from Southwest Baptist College. She was a member of Alpha Iota Sorority and attended Drury College. She married William E. "Bill" Mathias on December 27, 1957, after meeting him at Draughons. They were proud parents to beautiful Linda Jean Mathias, born July 7, 1962.

Georgie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill in 2011 after 53 years of marriage; her beloved daughter Linda, who died in a tragic accident following her first day of first grade in 1968; her sister Betty Edwards (and her husband Bob) of Nixa, and their four children. She is survived by sister-in-law Betty Palen (Bill), their three children, along with many cousins and extended family.

Georgie attended Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Springfield and had friends from churches and community organizations in Springfield, Bolivar, St. Joseph, and Stuttgart, Arkansas, where she and Bill lived during Bill's career in hospital administration. Georgie appreciated the kindness from her neighbors and was especially grateful to close friends Linda and Dwain Patterson, of Springfield, who served as Georgie's Sunday School teachers and caregivers.

Georgie loved to ride and watch horses, read, and join friends for meals at Golden Corral, where she and Bill were treated as VIPs.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2024, at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield. A Celebration Service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with nephew William R. Palen officiating. Burial will be at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Springfield.
