Obituary

Georgia Williams Sheppard passed away 12/24/2010. She was a descendant of the founders of Springfield and daughter of J. Sam and Pearl Williams. Georgia attended Central High School and graduated from Drury College Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. For many years she worked with the Springfield Greene County Libraries (Brentwood Branch) and later the Springfield Public Schools. She served on the Springfield Art Museum Board, and the Historic Sites Board. Working with her husband Charles Sheppard, Georgia helped achieve National Historic Site designation for Christ Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, a brother J. Sam Williams, and sisters Martha Williams Wilkerson and a Mabel Williams Marlin. She is survived by her children Charles W. Sheppard and Georgianna Tuuri, six grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held at 11 am, Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Christ Episcopal Church with The Reverend Ken Chumbley officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm, Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Greene County Historical Museum, Christ Episcopal Church, or the Springfield Art Museum.
