Georgia L. Hedges, age 94, of Springfield, passed away at 12:49 a.m Friday, August 13, 2010, in Cox South. She was born January 18th, 1916 in Nashville, Ark., to William John and Lydia Anna Herring Lockwood. Georgia attended school in Maplewood, Mo., and received a BS/Education degree from Southeast Missouri State College in Cape Girardeau. She taught school in New Madrid and Springfield schools. She married William E. Hedges Sept. 9, 1939. He was formerly Director of Public Works in Springfield and later in Oklahoma City. He retired as Chief Bond Engineer for the Missouri Public Service Commission in Jefferson City. Bill passed away May 1, 1979 and Georgia returned to Springfield in 1992. She was a member of the Antique Art Group of SMMA and of Campbell United Methodist Church. Georgia loved music and was an accomplished pianist for many years. She loved to travel and was blessed to be able to do so extensively in her retirement years. Georgia is survived by her son, William L. Hedges; Daughters, Harriet and husband Thomas Smith and Nancy L. Hedges; all of Springfield; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, August 16th, in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel, with the Reverend Melissa Dodd officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1 p.m., until service time Monday, in the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Campbell UMC, 1747 E.
