Georgia Lee Christy entered eternity October 5, 2018. She was born to George and Blanche Reinhart on August 28, 1925. She grew up with her older sister ,Rosemary, in Parsons, Kansas. The family lived on a farm raising crops and cattle. She met her husband to be, Raymond Christy, at a soda fountain in downtown Parsons just after the war. She completed a degree in Bacteriology at the University of Kansas. She excelled at academics and was presented a Phi-Beta-Kappa Key for her efforts.
Raymond and Georgia married in August 1951 and spent 56 years together until his passing in 2007. Richard, their first born son arrived in 1952 followed by Chris in 1955 and Paul in 1957. Georgia worked in the laboratory at Kansas City General Hospital while Raymond finished his medical education. She then took on the task of raising three rambunctious boys until they were on their own.
Georgia trained as a travel consultant and she and Raymond, along with Don and Linda Overend owned and operated Ozark World Travel for 30 years. She and Raymond travelled extensively and visited over 130 countries during this period. Georgia also served on the Springfield Branson Regional Airport Board for many years. Additionally, she was a member of Springfield Area Arts Council and the Dickerson Park Zoo. Georgia also volunteered at The Kitchen for many years. Georgia's interests included travel, the French language and collecting Japanese Porcelain which she donated to The Springfield Art Museum in 2016. The collection is periodically displayed by the museum.
After the loss of her husband Georgia reduced her activities as her health began to decline in her mid-eighties. She battled cancer, heart disease, COPD and other health problems until the age of 93. She finally succumbed to a brief illness and passed away with family and friends present on Friday October 5, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, her husband, granddaughter Katy and granddaughter Amber's husband, Ben Rustemeyer. She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Richard, Jenifer, Chris, Donna, Paul and Darla. She also has six granddaughters Amber, Andrea (Bryan), Claire, Carlee, Cameron and Carol (Austin) as well as three great-grandchildren, Avery, Landon, and Phoenix.
Visitation will be from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM Tuesday October 9, 2018 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church at 10 AM Wednesday October 10, 2018 with Fr. Tom Kiefer, celebrant. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Lunch will be served at Immaculate Conception after the burial.
