George Lafayette Mitchell, Jr. was born on May 7, 1938 in Springfield, MO to parents George and Prewitt Evans Mitchell. He attended Crescent one room Elementary School at Turners, MO, Rogersville High School, and the University of Missouri Business School. George then served in the US Army.

His first job was milking cows at the MU campus cow shed. When he graduated from MU he was assistant to the Registrar at Stephens College.

George also worked at Brown Shoe Company and Curtis Breeding Company. George was Plant Manager for Kraft Foods in Missouri, New York, and Florida for years. He was manager/owner of real estate income and investment properties, construction, and manufacturing in Lakeland, Florida.

George was a charter member of Sunshine Baptist Church along with his family. He was a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary. George loved being a part of the Springfield Curmudgeons.

Following retirement in Lakeland, George returned to his beloved farm at Turners, MO to enjoy the changing seasons, deer and walnut trees.

George passed from this life on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO.

He is lovingly remembered by his son, Evans Fitzgerald Mitchell (Tanya); grandson, Kenneth Dean Mitchell; sister, Elizabeth Mitchell Pace (Julian); nephew, Julian Pace, Jr. (Cynthia) and their children Amelia and Nicholas; niece, Emily Pace Huff (Tim) and their children Henry and Elliot, cousins, numerous friends; his kitty, Miss Kitty and the last love of his life, Mavis Busiek.

A Celebration of George's Life will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Sunshine Baptist Church, 5034 E Sunshine Terrace, Springfield, MO 65809.
