Genny (or Gigi as she was lovingly called by many friends and family) was born in Salley SC on April 11, 1923, to Jerome Wiggins and Willa Letitia Gleaton Fogle. At an early age Genny's family moved to Aurora MO where her father had acquired a Coca Cola franchise. At age twelve her mother died of peritonitis. A few years later Jerry married Josephine Bushman who was thereafter known as Mama Jo to Genny and her siblings, and many grandchildren that followed. Genny graduated from Aurora High School in 1941. She was very proud to have been a baton twirler for the Hound Dog marching band while in high school. Genny attended Christian College in Columbia MO. She majored in Dance, and enjoyed dancing her entire life. After graduation from Christian she moved to St Louis where she worked at the McDonald-Douglas aircraft factory as part of the war effort. At the boarding house where she lived she met another resident, a young dental student named Guy Phillip Bates. Dad recounted that there was only one telephone in the boarding house, which was just outside his room. Meeting Genevieve became a top priority for him because he answered more calls for her than any other resident, so in addition to her good looks he figured she was special in many other ways. Phil was an Ensign in the Navy at the time, and on a weekend pass the two were married in Aurora on Nov 18, 1944. Following graduation from St Louis University School of Dentistry, Phil was assigned to the dental clinic at the Naval Radio Station, Wahiawa, Oahu, Territory of Hawaii, and Genny follow him there. It was in Hawaii that she continued her love for dance by becoming proficient in the native Hula. In 1948 they returned to Springfield MO where they lived until their deaths. They had been married nearly 69 years when Phil died on Aug 7, 2013. Genny was a diligent, loving mother, a fastidious homemaker, and an incredible cook. She was a member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, The Binnie Clements Guild, The Southern Club and PEO, to name but a few organizations to which she belonged. Gigi was preceded in death by her father, Jerome; mother, Willa; stepmother, Josephine; brothers, Anelle and Jerry (Jr.); and sister, Gloria Holland. She is survived by her her sister, Patsy Leong (Wah) and brother, Dr. Phil Fogle (Dianne); sons, Dr. Guy (Eda) and Mike (Joe); grandchildren Debi Moldenhauer (Arnold), Michael, Shawn (Anne), Miranda Phelps and Ryan (Honora). Her great-grandchildren include Madeline and Gabrielle Sheridan, and Tre Moldenhauer. Additional great-grandchildren are Cameron, Mackenzie, Spencer, Joseph and Willa Bates. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of the Manor at Elfindale for the professional and loving care they gave to Mom in her final years.
