IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Geneva Irene
Duncan Anderson
March 24, 1920 – February 3, 2021
Geneva Anderson passed away peacefully in her home on February 3, 2021, at the age of 100 years. Even in her final days, she continued to live life to the fullest, sharing stories of her amazing life and bringing laughter and joy to all.
Geneva was born near Bolivar, Missouri on March 24, 1920 to Thomas Luther Duncan and Minnie Gorden Duncan. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Springfield. Geneva received an award from Pierre Zanca upon completion of "Men's Hair Designing" in 1974 in Spain. She was a charter member of the Springfield chapter of National Hairdressers and Cosmetology and served as the chapter secretary. She also served as State Vice President of the Women's International Association of the Typographical Union. Geneva loved her Glenstone Baptist Church family and served on the "Go Team" and taught Sunday School class until she "retired" while in her late nineties.
Geneva was a classy lady, always dressed in a stylish outfit with a hat to match. She loved to experience and explore and traveled all over the world. Geneva told the best stories and her family loved to hear of her escapades in Africa, Spain, France, Cuba, and Alaska, just to name a few. Geneva's advice on staying young was always to eat right, work outside, and exercise. At 95 years young, she was still mowing her own yard and gardening. Neighbors would see her trimming her bushes by hand and would offer to help. She would tell them to "step off sonny, this is how I stay young!"
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands William H. Whitecotton and Joe (Andy) Anderson, brothers Russell Duncan, Weldon T. Duncan, a sister Wilma Odrowski, sister-in-law Ida Lee Duncan and nephew Charles Duncan. Geneva did not have children of her own but her nephew William (Bill) Anderson was like a son to her, and he took care of all of her needs for many years. When Bill passed away in late January 2021, Geneva knew she would see him again, and they were reunited in Heaven two weeks later.
Survivors include nephews Robert, Tom, George, and Randall Duncan, a niece Lana Harvey, several great and great, great nieces and nephews and numerous friends and relatives. She will be greatly missed by her great niece Tamra Waitman and husband John and great nephew Brandon Anderson and wife Sue, who were blessed to spend recent quality time and make beautiful memories with her in her final days.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, February 12, 2021 from 5 – 7 PM at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole, Springfield, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Glenstone Baptist Church, 413 S. Glenstone, Springfield, MO 65802.
