Obituary

On July 8th, 2021, Geneva Dean Bopp, affectionately known as Genny, passed away peacefully at her home in Battlefield, MO with her daughter at her side. Born September 6, 1929, to Harvey and Julia Moore she went on to graduate from Alton High and the local Secretarial School in Alton, Illinois.

One could hardly imagine the life of Genny without Milt, the love of her life. Set up on a blind date by their friends for a night of fun and dancing, that relationship would blossom into a lifetime of love and happiness that would span generations. They married on June 18, 1950, and never stopped loving to dance through life together. They raised three children, Jeff Bopp, Mike Bopp and Jane Bopp Barnett.

Passionate about family and traveling, Genny and Milt visited all 50 states, as well as living abroad in Venezuela, and Madrid, Spain. She touched the lives of so many she met along the way becoming lifelong friends with many people of all generations. Genny, was kind, loving, devoted, fun, generous and an incredibly strong lady. She loved playing all kinds of cards, especially bridge. She belonged to several bridge groups, ladies' groups, Rainbow Girls, PEO and loved giving her time to church functions and outreach programs. She was well known as a wonderful cook and baker. Her cookies were made of the greatest kind of love and enjoyed by family and friends. She was incredibly talented and painted beautiful oil paintings. Genny and Milt led a senior youth group at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey, Illinois for many years. She was also a member of Schweitzer United Methodist Church in Springfield. They set an incredible example of what a loving Christian couple should be and helped shape the lives of the youth that attended.

Genny leaves behind the legacy of her, and Milts love to be carried on by her son Jeff Bopp, daughter Jane Barnett (Greg), 7 grandchildren: Heather Worthy (Matt), Shannon Wiezik (Andy), Laura Green (Derrick), Jacob Bopp (Marlene), Jason Arend, Joshua Arend and Jordan Bopp. Her hope is that legacy will also continue with her 10 great-grandchildren, Michael & Lilly Worthy, Paige and Brody Wiezik, Dylan, Cooper, and Ethan Green, Gabe and Haylee Arend, and Aiden Bopp. She was the devoted Matriarch to her beloved nieces, nephews, surrogate family and awesome friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, all 8 of her siblings and their spouses, her husband Milt, and son Mike.

A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, July 14th, at 6:00 PM with a visitation prior from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Mason officiating. There will be a graveside service in Godfrey, Illinois at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 17th, at Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Evangelical United Church of Christ Youth Group at 1212 W. Homer M. Adams PKWY, Godfrey, IL 62035 or to Phoenix Hospice, who provided such loving support the last few weeks of her life, at 1839 E Independence St. Suite K Springfield, MO 65804.
