Genella W. Smith, 91, Springfield, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 in the comfort of her home. She was born May 28, 1921 in Carroll County, Missouri, the daughter of Joseph Glenn and Goldie Agnes Pemberton. She graduated from Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, MO with a Home Economics Degree. Prior to marrying the love of her life, Collier Smith, in 1945, she taught in Crane. She followed her husband throughout the country during his career in the United States Air Force. After Collier retired to Springfield in 1960, Genella returned to teaching and was a devoted Home Economics teacher in Fair Grove. She was a founding member of the Ozark Piecemakers Quilt Guild and was a member of HEIH. Genella was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Collier; son, Joseph Collier Smith; two brothers and one sister. Genella is survived by her son and his wife, Lee and Cathy Smith; daughter, Susan Sohl; four grandchildren, Lauren, Colton and Spencer Smith, and Austin Sohl. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
