Gene Earvin Cantrell, 66, Springfield, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009. During his life he worked as a Greene county deputy sheriff, he also worked for Cardins Circus, Thompson Auto Sales, Zenith and later as a semi truck driver. He was a member of Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite Gate of the Temple in Springfield, MO. He was a member of the American Legion Post 69. He also belonged to Amvets Post 179 in Brighton, MO. He was proud to serve his country as a United States Marine. He was a Vietnam veteran. He was preceded in death by his father Earvin Cantrell and his mother Novella Hicks Cantrell. He is survived by a daughter, DaLana January; two sons, Jeffery and wife Shelly and Todd and wife Pam Cantrell, all of Springfield; two brothers, Lowell Cantrell and his wife Brenda, Shawnee, KS and Steve Cantrell, Little Rock, Arkansas; an aunt, Mary Hicks, Bois D'Arc, MO; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, August 17, 2009 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel followed by burial with full military honors in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
