Gary Lynn Pickens, was born the youngest son of Sam and Zoe Elaine Thompson Pickens, in Springfield, Missouri. Gary was preceded in death by both of his parents and one brother and one sister and brother-in-law.

As a child he attended Catholic school, Jarrett Jr. High and he graduated from Parkview High School in 1976, where he was an avid football player and wrestler. He also coached little league basketball at the Boys & Girls Club.

Gary was a member of the Masonic Body at Truth Lodge 151 where he was an outstanding member for 45 years and he was a Shriner at The UKHFI TEMPLE No. 203.

Gary was a Co-Owner of Pickens Trash Service with his father and brother. He also owned a lawn business until he became too ill to continue his business.

Gary never married, but he had great joy in spoiling and loving his nieces and nephews.

He leaves to celebrate his homecoming, two brothers;  Sam Pickens, Jr., from Jackson, Miss., Anthony Lee Pickens, Sr., Springfield, Mo. One sister;  Emma Eileen (Leroy Dale) Hervey, Springfield, Mo.  A longtime friend, Deborah Metz, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and two God children; Aimee and Eric Durham.
