Gary L. Hoos, 60, loving son, devoted husband , father, and grandfather, departed this life on July 11, 2016. Gary was born August 2, 1955 in Muskogee, OK to Eugie and Elva Hoos of Miami , Oklahoma. He was a proud graduate of Miami High School and the University of Oklahoma, majoring in Z oology . He then obtained a medical degree from the University of Oklahoma Medical School, specializing in Hematology/Oncology.
Gary married Julie Moran S hipley on April 3 , 1982. He is survived by his wife, Julie; son Trevor Shipley and wife Stacy; their children Madeline, Declan & Lorelei; daughter Ryanne; and daughter Mallory and husband Garry; and his parents , E ugie and Elva Hoos .
Gary was preceded in death by his precious grandson, Liam Shipley.
Gary began his practice in Springfield in July 1986 with Oncology Hematology Associates . After much thought and prayer he joi ned the St . Joh n ' s/Mercy Oncologists. He served on the board of directors for B reast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks and was a board member of the American Cancer Society. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Clinical Oncololgy. He was board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology .
Gary was a devoted family man who adored his children and grand children. He was generous and selfless with his time, always putting his family and patients first. He will be missed for his compassion, his u nwaveri ng faith, his knowledge on every subject , but mostly his little chuckle and stockpile of jokes. He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Chu rch. Gary enjoyed serving on numerous committees and foundations in Springfield including the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks and Camp Bluebird.
Gary was a devoted physician who touched the lives of countless cancer patients and their families du ring his more than 30 years in Springfield.
Gary enjoyed cooking for and entertaining his family and friends at their condo on Tablerock where they enjoyed all that the lake offers . He enjoyed tinkeri ng in his new workshop and loved sharing their home with others .
Visitation will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on Friday, July 15, 2016 . The family will receive visitors from 4:00 – 7:00 PM followed by the rosary . Funeral Mass will be held Saturday July 16, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Tom Kiefer celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Gary with donations to the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks, or the Kitchen.
