Obituary

Garry R.(Richard) Cox was born August 7th, 1935 to Oma Richard and Millie Letha Cox in Sedalia, Missouri where he grew up, attending Washington Grade School and graduating from Smith Cotton High School in 1953. He attended Central Missouri State University, leaving it to serve 2 years in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954-1956. In 1957, he met Ardyth Hazel Dunham and three months later they were married.

Garry had 3 children, Richard Preston Cox of Noblesville, Indiana and grandchildren Nicholas and Amanda with great grandchild Axel.
Garry Douglas Cox of Springfield, Mo and granddaughter Lace and 2 great grandchildren Kaden and Parker and grandson Cory and wife Annie and great grandson Owen.
Ardyth Ann Blake of St.Peters,Mo and husband Joe and grandchildren Emma and Amerra.
He worked almost 40 years for American Family Insurance of Madison Wisconsin, retiring in 1999 as State Sales Director. He built an agency from scratch in Sedalia, then 25 years as a District Manager in Springfield Missouri and building it to where 3 districts became one in Jefferson City, Mo. He earned the designation of LUTCF, served as President Of the General Agents and Managers Association industry schools and designations.
He was a professed Christian and was active in the Methodist community everywhere he lived.

Garry was a Master Mason, York Rite, Scottish Rite, Abou Ben Adhem Shrine, and the Royal Order of the Jester's
Preceded in death by his amazing wife of 54 years, Ardyth., his parents, one sister, Joretta Smith, a son, Richard P. Cox, and a grandson, Nicholas Cox

Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 2, 2020 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
