Garrett Anthony Golik, beloved son, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully at his home in Springfield on June 4, 2026, with his parents by his side.

Garrett was born on October 11, 1968, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. When his father was sent to Vietnam, Garrett and his mother returned to Des Moines, Iowa, to live with his maternal grandparents. This time forged a special bond between Garrett and his grandparents. Upon his father’s return, his family moved to Kansas City, where Garrett spent his early childhood.

In 1980, the Goliks moved to Springfield, Missouri, where Garrett attended Greene Valley State School. Following completion of his education, he enjoyed a career at Springfield Workshop Foundation for 21 years. A highlight was admiring the snowflakes he assembled that lit up the Springfield streets all Christmas.

Garrett was a faithful member of First Baptist Church’s Shepherd’s Flock class. He also enjoyed sports of all kinds through Special Olympics, A Sporting Chance, and countless activities through Springfield Parks and Recreation and Boy Scouts. He especially loved to tell stories of his friends and adventures at Camp Barnabas, where he was a faithful camper for over 25 years. Gospel and country music fed his soul (especially when loud), and he knew an uncanny amount of movie trivia.

An avid sports fan, Garrett could often be seen wearing the jerseys of his beloved Chiefs, Royals, and MSU Bears. Nothing, however, would ever compare to watching his brother, Nathan, play football at Hickory Hills and Glendale.

Garrett was preceded in death by his fraternal grandparents, Anton and Vera Golik; his maternal grandparents, Garrett and Betty Bartley; his uncle James Golik; and his beloved cousin Kelsi Bartley Little.

Garrett is survived by his parents, Don and Betty Golik; his brother, Nathan Golik, and sister-in-law, Katy (Stamatis); and their children, Emma (Golik) Harper and husband Spencer, Margaret Golik, and Benjamin Golik. Also surviving are his uncle Earl Bartley and wife Betty, and their children Bryce Bartley and wife Michelle, Brooke Bartley, and Dawn Trammell; his uncle Richard Golik and wife Nancy, and their children Brandi Golik and Chase Golik and wife Helen; and numerous cousins, especially Carol Lynn Sprague Wilson, who held a special place in his heart.

In his later years, Garrett benefitted from a second family through The East Living staff who lovingly cared for him. Special thanks go to caregivers Vanessa Watson, Austin McQuarry, and his former roommate Allen Nelson.

Garrett’s service will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on June 20, 2026. A visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Dennis Miller officiating. Burial to follow at Maple Park Cemetery.

Garrett was known by his wonderful smile and infectious joy bestowed on all who knew him. Please honor him by giving your smile freely to others as an act of kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations my be made to Springfield Workshop Foundation or Camp Barnabas.
