Obituary

Glenn "Windsor" Warren passed away on February 15, 2022 at the age of 95 in Springfield, MO.  Until one week before his passing, Windsor had remained active and independent, driving himself to his office every weekday, Rotary and Sertoma club meetings, and to First and Calvary church on Sundays where he was a long time member and elder.  He will be remembered as a man who enjoyed life to its fullest and lived every minute with love and laughter.

A World War II veteran, the army put him on a path to engineering. Staying within the American Theater of Operations throughout the war, he counted himself lucky. On every occasion when he might have been sent to the European Theater of Operations (ETO) at the time of the Battle of the Bulge, fate intervened to keep him in the US, and advance him toward his engineering education.  He was honorably discharged and continued to serve in the Army Reserves until his retirement in 1968 holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

He began his engineering education at Oregon State University while on active duty during the war, where failure meant immediate transport to the ETO.  He finished at Missouri School of Mines, now called Missouri Institute of Science and Technology with a degree in Civil Engineering.  His career spanned the Missouri Highway Department, Frisco Railroad, multiple Springfield architectural firms, and finally his own architecture and engineering firm, Warren & Goodin Inc, established in 1962 and continuing to the time of his death.

Windsor knew nothing of fashion, but many will remember him reveling in wearing a Scottish cap with pom-pom, a gift from his mother.  Earlier in his life he loved to travel and was generous with his family and office professionals, taking them on trips to destinations far away every year.  One of his favorite places was Lost Valley Ranch near Colorado Springs, Colorado where he traveled in his station wagon with all the kids every summer to spend a fun-filled week at the dude ranch.  He continued to follow his passion of engineering and kept up his engineering license in many states. There are many reminders of Windsor in the buildings in Springfield, MO and other cities. Many will also remember, and learned to stay clear of his blue pickup truck, which featured not an undamaged spot on it. We will miss Windsor, but can take comfort knowing that his truck will not be taking to the road again.

Windsor was preceded in death by his first wife Barbara L Warren, father Glenn R Warren, and mother Marie E Warren.  He is survived by his sister Gloria Smith of Tulsa OK,  sons Wade W Warren (Susie Warren), Weber A Warren, and Walter A Warren, all of Springfield, his daughter Jeanne M Stanchik (Jake) of Lenexa KS, former spouse Barbara J Warren of Springfield, and grandchildren Chelsea M Warren, Summer S Larson (Jeremy), Hannah Brown (Mike), Caroline Stanchik, Allison Koch (Brady), Michael Stanchik, and Will Albrecht (Kim), eight great grandchildren and nieces Cynthia Smith Steverson and Rhonda Smith.

A graveside service will be held at Greenlawn cemetery on Saturday March 26 at 1 pm with full military honors. Contributions can be made at operationsmile.org.
