Obituary

Frieda Louise Hoagland was born on November 17, 1930 to Walton G. Hennigh and Ethel Terrill Hennigh in Fordland, Missouri. She was the youngest child in a family of seven children. She married L.D. Hoagland on December 1, 1948 and together they had two children, Pam and Mark. Frieda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and all but one of her siblings. She is survived by her daughter Pam and her husband Billy Speer, son Mark and his wife Nancy. She is also survived by her granddaughter Jessica Speer Neal and her husband Craig, great grandsons Cole and Tate Neal, two step-granddaughters Megan Smith and Bailey Burnett. Her sister Aleta Claxton also survives as does Frieda's sister-in-law Betty Hoagland, and many others in her extended family. Frieda loved birds, hiking and travel. She has hiked in Africa, walked on the Great Wall of China, floated down the Rhine River, dined in Venice and Croatia. She has kissed the Blarney Stone and been to London to try and spot the Queen. She was a diarist, knew many species of birds and trees by sight and name; she was an avid reader and a political junkie. (The Democratic Party has lost a great champion.) She made friends wherever she went and still corresponded with many of her fellow world travelers. She always appreciated kindness, and was, in turn, appreciated and known for her own kindnesses. We believe that on September 2, 2011, Frieda Louise found a new trail on which to hike, new sunsets to marvel at, new bird songs to hear and new trees under which she can rest and regain her strength in order to carry on. To her many friends we offer our sincere thanks and ask only that they do some kindness for someone in remembrance of her. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 10:00 AM in Fordland Cemetery, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. No visitation is scheduled.
