Fred H. Simon passed away May 6, 2014 at 3:45pm at Cox South after a long illness. He was born March 16, 1927 in Springfield, MO, the son of William Harvey Sr. and Nellie Jarrett Simon. Fred was a proud graduate of Senior High School class of 1945 and was a member of the school's football team, The Bulldogs. He attended SMS where he also played football. He was honored and proud to serve his country in the Navy during World War II and was first in Missouri to be called to serve in the Korean Conflict for 3 years. He worked for Southwestern Bell and AT&T and retired in 1984 after 39 dedicated years as a PBX technician. Through the years he went to school in KC, St. Louis, Dallas, TX, Topeka, KS and Dayton, OH to further his knowledge and advancements, with AT&T. He was a member of CWA and held numerous titles through the years, was an active member of Gate of Temple Lodge and Abou Ben Adam Shrine for 60 years and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Fred was a hard-working man, who realized the importance of living life to the fullest. He was blessed with wonderful friends through the years. He loved spending time at his lake place on Table Rock Lake and enjoyed all sports, fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his wonderful parents, Nellie and Harvey; brothers, Commander William H. Simon, Jr. and Elwood C. Simon; and sister, Anne Simon Nevatt. He leaves behind his lovely and devoted wife, Ann, to whom he would have been married to for 65 years July 30th; two daughters, Susan Simon of Clinton, MO and Candace Schaller and husband, Keith of Ensenada, Mexico; his twin sister, Betty Raymond and husband Ray of Denver, CO; numerous nieces and nephews; many wonderful friends; and three very special people in his life, Dr. Jim Brown, Dr. Gary Stratman and Becky Mitchem, his guardian angel on number 2 World War II Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 12, 2014 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, with funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Fred will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
