Obituary

Fred Joe , 66, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, for eternal rest and peace, on December 31, 2016 while in the presence of family.  He had suffered a hemorrhagic stroke in 2010, however through therapy, medical treatments and lots of prayers, he was not able to return to the man we all knew and loved.

He was born in Tafunsak, Kosrae, on May 24, 1950 to Aida and Jim Joe.

He lived on the island of Kosrae until the age of 14.  Then they moved to the island of Phonpei where he attended high school.  Later, he traveled to Kapingamarangi and moved to Hawaii to attend the Honolulu Community College – The University of Hawaii.   There he received a degree in Automotive Mechanics.  This trade would take him from working on capital improvement programs with Madea Road Construction to working 22 years with the Pohnpei Utilities Corporation.  His employers recognized his hard work, leadership and dedication.  He instilled in his children the importance of higher education and strong work habits.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Aida and Jim Joe; brothers, Sohny, Songko, Mesakisi, Enser, Anser; sister, Merlihna; adopted sister, Eslihse and a grandson E'Ray.

Cherishing the many wonderful memories of a loving husband is his devoted wife of 38 years, Sispel Joe of Kapingamarangi; and children, Judy Ioanis, Joevie George (Edwin), Maioriko (Mia), Forda, Joe, Joelynn, Namath, Juncy, Jason and Joslyn.  Fred and Sispel also lovingly raised, Richard Mack, Mayleen Mack, Lambert Maruame and Naman Lick.  His nineteen grandchildren:  Christy, Shiana, Jabez, Kaiya, Malia, Kamea, Jay Jay, Aaliyah, Yolanie, Keoni, Faith, Steven, Julie, Maymie, Rusty, Toria, Lizandrah and Garmelihlatrace who brought so much joy to his life, as well as his one great-grandson, Renton.  His is also survived by his brothers, Godwin and Ahsel; sister, Sowana and adopted brothers, Kehsner, Robinson, Metson and sister, Suhsinda.  Fred was a friend to everyone he met and he was deeply loved by many.  His extended family and friends will always remember him and miss him dearly.

The family will continue his home-going celebration back home in Pohnpei with family and friends.  Our hearts are heavy but we know he is at peace and up in heaven healthy and strong.
