Obituary

Fred R. "Bob" Miller, 87, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017 of heart failure in Springfield, MO. He was born March 7, 1929.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and his parents, Fred and Corinne (Abernathy) Miller.

Bob was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was active in several community organizations: Friends of the Library, Center City Christian Outreach-Well of Life, Brentwood Buddies and the University Club. Bob was an educator for over 40 years.


He is survived by son Richard Miller of Louisburg, KS; daughter Becky Showalter and husband Curt of Gardner, KS; daughter Ellen Grantham and husband Jim of Walnut Grove, MO; grandchildren Amanda and Chris Schroeder, Mike and Holly Showalter, Matt Showalter, Jonathan and Lindsey Vaughan, Jason and Chloe Vaughan, Jessica and Isaiah Coon; seven great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law Jim Boillot and wife Phyllis, Armand Hofer; and four nieces. He also leaves behind many friends and former students.


Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 600 S. Jefferson Ave., Springfield, MO 65806 with the Rev. Melissa Bailey-Kirk officiating, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will be Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 5:00-7:00 p.m.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Library, Center City Christian Outreach, or Grace United Methodist Church.
