Frank Urban, 94, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at his home in Springfield.
He was born on April 1, 1928 to Fidelis and Margaret Urban in Pfeifer, Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 earning the rank of corporal. After his military service, he was a radio engineer at KGBX radio station. It was there he met his future wife, Oma Gillette. They were married on June 18, 1955 at St. Agnes Cathedral. They were married for 65 years. After 29 years with KGBX, Frank worked at National Audio until retirement.
Frank was a great example for all husbands and fathers. He was dedicated to his family and his church. He was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan, enjoyed playing a good round of golf, a fun game of pinochle and tended his vegetable garden for over 60 years. He collected golf balls over the years and has over 5,000 on display in his garage.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Oma, his parents, and two sisters: Florence Miller and Margie Howell. He is survived by two sons: Mark Urban of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Steve (Sherry) Urban of Rogersville, Missouri; three daughters: Cindy (Steve) Taft of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Julie (Dan) Brown of Battlefield, Missouri, and Laurie (Greg) Keith of Lebanon, Missouri; 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and a brother, Vernon (Betty) Urban of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Visitation will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022 from 6:00 – 7:30 P.M. with a Rosary at 7:30. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Burial will be Friday, Oct. 21 at 9:00 A.M. in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
