Obituary

Frank C. Giddings, M.D., 85, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014, in Springfield, Missouri. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole. A memorial service celebrating Frank's life will follow at 11:00 a.m. Frank was born in Rushville, Nebraska, on October 19, 1928, to Irene and Frank C. Giddings, Sr. Frank is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Virginia Smith. His sisters, Darlene Beach (Irving, TX) and Demaris Brenn (Phoenix, AZ) survive him. He is also survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma Giddings, and his sons and daughters and their families: Jim and Cindy Giddings (Kansas City, MO), Cathy and Bill Gonyea (Yantis, TX), Tom and Liz Giddings (Springfield, MO), Dick and Debbie Giddings (Lee's Summit, MO), David and Marilyn Giddings (Everton, MO), and Mary and Todd Hall (Springfield, MO). After graduating from Rushville High School, Frank pursued his lifelong dream of becoming a doctor. He completed his bachelor's degree at the University of Southern California, and earned his medical degree at the University of Nebraska (Omaha) College of Medicine. While a medical student, Frank met Norma Range. They were married in Sac City, Iowa, on February 1, 1953. After completing his internship and residency at The Charles T. Miller Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, Frank served his country as a captain in the U.S. Army. He completed his military service as Chief of Radiology at Fort Leonard Wood. His medical career eventually led the family to Springfield, Missouri. Frank was a Board Certified Radiologist and a founding partner of Litton & Giddings Radiological Associates, PC (LGRA). He practiced medicine for more than 30 years. His colleagues, associates and office staff were like extended family to him. Medicine was Frank's true calling, and he treated each patient with kindness, compassion, dignity and respect. Frank cherished his wife, Norma, who was the love of his life, and he was extremely proud of his family. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly, and endeavored to teach them by his own example. Frank was an avid gardener. He loved music and was an accomplished singer. He was devoted to his faith community at Campbell Street United Methodist Church. Frank was kind and generous, and a man of great integrity. He was deeply grateful for the many blessings of life, especially his family and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of Maple Wood Assisted Living and Omega Hospice for their care.
