Obituary

Frances Scarborough Turner died Wednesday afternoon, October 30, 2013, in her home. She was born in Jefferson City, Missouri, on February 18, 1930, to Bess and J. Ray Scarborough. She moved to Springfield at a young age attending Rountree, Jarrett, and then graduating from Greenwood Lab School. She received her Home Economics and Art degrees in 1951 from Southwest Missouri State University. In 1951 she met and married the love of her life, Dr. Glenn Turner. They celebrated their 62nd anniversary on June 24. Frances was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and aunt. Volunteerism was very important to her and she was actively involved in, to name just a few, PTA, Camp Fire, Cub Scouts, and Meals on Wheels, serving on some of the following boards: Ozark Council of Camp Fire, Heart Association, Greene County Medical Auxiliary, and YWCA. She enjoyed a 50 year membership with the Living Arts SMMA art group. Frances was a member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and his wife, Richard and Jean Scarborough, her sister and her husband, Betty and Guy Callaway and three sons. She is survived by her husband Glenn, her daughters, Carol Chappell (Scott) of Springfield and Linda Turner of Dallas, Texas, and a son, Steven (Cindy) Turner of Evansville, Indiana, granddaughters, Lee Chappell and Amelia Turner, brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Sammie Turner of Mount Vernon and Mary Alice and Dave Olinger of Memphis, Tennessee, as well as many nieces and nephew. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 4 at 1:00 p.m. at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Visitation will follow at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. with a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. Andrew Chaney officiating. In lieu of flowers please consider making memorial contributions to the music program at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
