Frances L. Tuck, age 99, of Springfield, MO passed away on February 20, 2022, in the care of Mercy Hospital.
Frances Tuck was born on November 28, 1922. She was the daughter of Charles R. Parker and Lou Anna Mitchell Parker, and was one of 13 children. She was married to Glenn Allen in Osceola, MO when she was 18, and three sons were born to this marriage: Ronald P. Allen, Paul E. Allen and Randall L. Allen.
She was married to Charles Tuck in 1981 and they lived in Springfield and were married for 33 years until his death in 2014. She is survived by son Randall Allen, her stepdaughter Becky Brown, stepson Brad Tuck his wife Paige and their children- Ryan Batson and wife Mozelle, Chace Tuck and wife Brittany-great granddaughter Avery, Claire Tuck, Aubrey Tuck; granddaughter Dori (Allen) Grinder and her husband Kevin- great-grandchildren Tobin and Garrin; grandson Deni Allen, wife Kate and their children- Drake and Parker.
She was preceded in death by all 12 of her siblings, her sons Ron and Paul Allen, grandson Evan Batson, numerous cousins, and family members.
Fran enjoyed a remarkably successful business career. She started her insurance career at Modern Security, and then was one of the organizers of Modern American Life and several other life insurance companies in other states. Later, she worked at Founders of America Investment Company and was President from 1978 through 1990. Fran retired from that position to assist her husband in their company, Tuck Investments and Rental Properties, and actively worked in the office into her 90s.
She moved to Springfield in 1962 and joined South Haven Baptist Church, where she taught a class of young married women for several years. Fran served in Bible School each year and served in the baby nursery for 13 years. Later in 1998, she moved her membership to Second Baptist Church and served that church faithfully until her death.
Fran enjoyed taking her home baked bread, cakes, jellies, and pickles to the Ozark Empire Fair for many years. She especially enjoyed bringing home blue ribbons! She also taught many of the grandchildren how to bake bread so that they could also enter the fair and she was always pleased to share in their success! Fran was very active and regularly participated in many local competitive runs including many 5k, 10k and half-marathons. She is still the state record holder in Missouri for 8 races including, a Half-Marathon (13 miles) at age 81. Along with the entire family, she enjoyed the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning and she participated well into her 90s. She was an inspiration to so many and encouraged others to be fit and active. "Age is only a number!" she would say with a smile.
She is greatly missed by her many family members, friends, church family and professional associates.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022, with visitation at noon and service at 1:00pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield. Burial will follow with a private graveside service for family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the missions program at Second Baptist Church, 3111 E. Battlefield, Springfield, Missouri 65804.
