Frances Margot Shanks went to be with the Lord August 31, 2016 at 102 years of age. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Edwin Shanks; daughter Sharon Frances Likins; son Harry Leonard Shanks; and grandson Greg Shanks.

She is survived by daughter Patti Martha Miller and her husband Ron, of Springfield as well as son Charles William Shanks and his wife Judy of Hot Springs Village, AR. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and a multitude of great and even, great great-grandchildren.

Virtually, a lifelong resident of Springfield, Frances spent the last 28 years of her life living in The Montclair. She considered the residents and staff there to be her extended family. She worked there leasing apartments well up into her eighties, often saying about her leasing duties, "Old people like dealing with other old people. That's why I'm good at it"! Frances was always a people person. The Montclair was truly her home and it was there she spent some of the best years of her life. Before living at The Montclair, her home for almost 30 years was on south Roanoke.

Frances married at sixteen and spent her adult life as a homemaker. She was a dedicated wife and mother. In the 60's and 70's she also worked several years downtown at Levy-Wolfe doing all their alterations. Raising her family and sewing just seemed to come naturally, at least that is how Frances made it seem. Both brought her joy.

A member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church for over sixty years, Frances participated in many activities there until later in her life. Her faith was of utmost importance to her, and she did her best to live a good Christian life and be a beacon for her heartfelt beliefs. She made friends easily and honestly never met a person she didn't like. Frances' surviving family and friends take comfort knowing she has entered the Kingdom of God and is at peace. Heaven will be a better place with her in it.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.   Visitation will proceed on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be at Hazelwood Cemetery where she will be next to her husband of well over fifty years. Frances was blessed and led a full and rewarding life. She will be missed by all who knew her.
