Obituary

Floyd Harold Hardin, Jr. was born February 17, 1948, in Springfield, MO. He was the first born of four children to Margaret Ann (Ellis) and Floyd Harold Hardin, Sr. He departed this life on April 26, 2017, at age 69 in Chandler, AZ.

Floyd ('Butch' as he was fondly called) was a graduate of Central High School where he participated in various sports and especially excelled in basketball. In 1969, he joined the United States Air Force and married his wife of nearly 48 years, Karen White. They lived in England for several years and eventually made Arizona their permanent home where they raised their two children:  Floyd, III and Ashley.

Floyd completed his Bachelor's Degree in Business Management at Southwest Missouri State University while employed as a Human Resource Manager at Zenith Electronics. He earned his Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and spent most of his professional career in education working at Wichita State University, Central AZ College and the Maricopa Community College District. He held various Student Affairs positions and served his students with extreme integrity and compassion. In retirement, Floyd devoted many hours to leadership roles in his church and perfecting his golf game. A highlight of his life was traveling abroad each summer with his family.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents: Margaret and Floyd Hardin, Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife: Karen Hardin; children: Floyd Hardin, III and Ashley Hardin; sisters: Mary Hardin-Phillips (Clarence), Kimberly Jones and Charlotte Hardin; sisters-in-law: Laverne White (Anthony) and Jill Jamerson; and brother-in-law: Kelvin Weaver. Additionally, he leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to celebrate his loving spirit and his legacy of a loyal family man and true man of honor.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 26, 2017 at Pitts Chapel United Methodist Church, 600 N. Benton, Springfield, MO, at 11:00 a.m. under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Interment with full military honors will follow at Hazelwood Cemetery.
