Floyd Dale Dryer, 89, of Springfield Missouri, passed away in his home on September 28, 2022. He was born August 27, 1933, to Floyd Benjamin Dryer and Myrtha Ellen (LeMaster) Dryer, in Mountain Grove Missouri.
Dale graduated from Mountain Grove High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Drury College.
On June 5, 1955, Dale married the love of his life, Gloria Faye (Baker) Dryer. Together they had four children: Cristy, Steve, Randy, and Lori. Dale was devoted to his family. He and Gloria were long-time members of Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church.
Soon after being married, Dale enlisted in the Navy. He served as the captain's yeoman aboard the USS Lake Champlain from 1955 to 1957.
Dale owned and operated Dryer's Shoe stores in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. He was also the president of the Heuer-Williams shoe warehouse which distributed shoes to family businesses throughout the United States.
Dale had a strong work ethic that he passed on to his family. But when the work was done, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing, snow skiing and flying with his family and friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria. He is survived by his sister Barbara Davis and husband Bob, sister Marilyn Wilcoxon and husband Ron, his four children, Cristy Kitchen and husband Robert, Steve Dryer and wife Anna, Randy Dryer and wife Laura, and Lori Day and husband Patrick. He has 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Family visitation will be Sunday, October 2, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 3, 2022 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with interment to follow in the Hazelwood Cemetery located in Springfield Missouri.
The family has requested memorials be made to Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church.
