Floyd Matthew Culbertson, 90, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2015 at the Neighborhoods at Quail Creek, surrounded by his loving family. Floyd was born on March 30, 1925 in Roscoe, Mo to the late Jesse Alvin and Mary King Francis Culbertson. He was a World War II Veteran, who received the Purple Heart in November 1944, and spent 14 months at O'Reilly Hospital. He attended SMS Teachers College on the GI Bill earning a BS degree in Accounting. Floyd married Peggy J. Turner on August 13, 1950 and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year. He retired from the Federal Government and enjoyed golfing, puttering around with his grandchildren and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and SMS Bears basketball. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Floyd is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; two daughters, Carol Bader (Jerry) and Gail Bowler (Marion), all of Springfield; five grandchildren, Ben Bader (Jennifer), Zach Bader (Jessica), Jenny Cummins (Andrew), all of Springfield, Matt Bowler (Carrie) of Jenks, OK; and Kelly Bowler (Morgan) of Atlanta, GA; seven great-grandchildren, Courtney, Reese and Addie Cummins; Anna, Grant and Tai Bowler; and the newest addition, Keegan Floyd Bowler. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Jensen (Jim) of Blue Springs, MO; and many nieces, nephews and two special lifelong friends, Harvey Jorgensen and Ken Meyer. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2015 in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 South Southwood Rd, Springfield, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.
