Floyd Carothers, age 93, of Springfield, Missouri passed away at 12:44pm on March 23, 2021 in Raytown, Missouri. He was born on November 11, 1927 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania to Frank and Emma (Trover) Carothers. He served in the U.S.Navy after graduating from high school. He was united in marriage with Florence Roscoe, his high school sweetheart, November 18, 1950. They had 2 children, a daughter Tracy and a son, Ron.
Floyd attended brick mason school after leaving the Navy and worked at the B&W Steel Mill in Koppel, Pennsylvania for 34 years. Floyd was an active member of Park Gate Baptist Church and was continually serving in various ways. He drove the church bus every Sunday to pick up local children for Sunday School. He also help build a large addition to the church with his brick laying skills. For years, he was involved with the Bible Memory Association and memorized much of the Bible. He was an avid bowler throughout his lifetime, until just several years ago. After retirement, he and Flo moved to Avon Park, FLorida where they worked at a citrus farm and volunteered at the local hospital and Chamber of Commerce. They traveled extensively throughout the United States in a motorhome every summer, always taking their two grandchildren on camping adventures each year.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Flo and their son, Ron.
He is survived by his daughter Tracy (Ken) Coleman of Rogersville, Missouri. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Jaime (Brandon) Lavergne of Lawrence, Kansas, and Garret (Rana) Coleman of Springfield, Missouri, and two great grandchildren, Cale and Ruby Coleman. He also leaves a beloved daughter-in-law, Sharon Carothers along with Kayleigh (Shaun) Stout and Christopher Snyder.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 2, 2021 at 10:00 AM in The Springs Church under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent in Floyd's name to The Springs Church (Memo: Missions Program), 5500 S. Southwood Rd., Springfield, MO 65804 or online at
